Here is a collection of graphs of some of the many lights standing along the coasts of Chesapeake Bay. Most were built in the late 1800's. Each has it's own personality and style, and has played a key role in marine safety on the Bay.

Lighthouses Featured: Chesapeake, Cape Henry, Cape Charles, Thimble Shoal, Newport News Middle Ground, Old Point Comfort, New Point Comfort, Wolf Trap Shoals, Smith Point, Point Lookout, Soloman's Lump, Point No Point, Hooper Island, Sharps Island, Thomas Point Shoal Light Station, Sandy Point.
Of the more than 50 lighthouses along the West Coast, we were able to select only 17 of these lonely beacons to chart for this book. Choosing the 17 was very difficult, for all of the West Coast lighthouses were very charming and each has its own splendor. We are sorry if we missed your favorite!

Many lighthouses have been decommissioned, beheaded, or marked for destruction. Electronic and satellite aides to navigation are making many obsolete. But, whether in active service or not, these magnificent buildings must be preserved-they are an integral part of international maritime history!

Features lighthouses from Maine to Florida! Over 120 of these imposing sentinels guard our coast line and provide navigational aid to ships on the high seas. Some are no longer in use, some are no longer standing; but those remaining are spectacular monuments to a nation's very real concern with marine safety.

From the western point to the eastern point, there are hundreds of beautiful lighthouses along the shores of the Great Lakes. We are able to include only a small number of them here, but we have tried to incorporate various types of lighthouses, from those which resemble houses to the towering iron skeletons.
