Taylor Nash (Stacy's 2 Year Old Daughter)
Designer's Name: Stacy Nash
Location: Indianapolis, IN

Greetings Stacy and thank you for taking part in our Friday Feature! Would you start by telling us about your design business and how it got off the ground?
Well....I started stitching again a few years ago when I was pregnant with my daughter. I sold my finished pieces on-line and had such a tremendous response that I decided to start my own website. With my husbands help I finally opened my website the first of the year and it has been so much fun. Although I'm all thumbs when it comes to the computer I do enjoy designing my site. My Mom encouraged me to offer my designs as patterns and we launched the first ones with the opening of my website. There just aren't enough words to describe how grateful I am for all of the kindness and support I get from my customers. And I count my blessing everyday....everyone in my family pitches in to help and it has brought us all closer together.

For those who aren’t familiar with your work, how would you describe your designs?
My designs are inspired by 17th & 18th Century samplers. I study the early motifs and incorporate them into my cross-stitch designs. I love the look and feel of the old samplers so I include wearing and ageing instructions with every pattern. And my newest passion is Needle Punch. I will be offering many new patterns with the early look and feel that my cross-stitch samplers offer.

What influences in your life directed you towards your style of designing?

I would have to say my Mom for sure. I remember going to antique stores and craft shows with her every weekend when I was little. She is the one that introduced me to primitives and taught me how to make things with my hands. We owned an antique and home furnishings store together for about 12 years so we did a lot of traveling to the East Coast and the old samplers always caught my eye. The nice worn linens and beautiful hand stitching were irresistible but I couldn't afford one for myself so I decided to design and stitch my own. I love to imagine what life was like so long ago.

New From Stacy Nash Primitives...
Schoolgirl Sampler Pinkeep Drum

One of the most popular designs by Stacy is this beautiful Schoolgirl Sampler Pinkeep Drum. The stitch count is 224 x 43 with a finished size of 3 1/2" x 3 3/4". The model was stitched on 28 count linen and the suggested retail price is only $10.00. This pinkeep makes a fantastic gift for stitchers...if you can part with it when you're finished!

Would you share a little about your family?

I live in Central Indiana with my husband Cory, my son Michael that just turned 16 and my daughter Taylor that is in her terrible 2's. And we are blessed to have my Mom here with us too...my kids are in hog heaven. We have 4 rotten dogs and 2 spoiled cats that make our lives very interesting. I also have a step-son that lives in Houston, Will is 13, and we count the days until we can see him again. My husband and I were born and raised in this area so most of our family are close and we enjoy seeing them as much as we can.

What are some things you enjoy about being in the cross-stitch industry?

Definitely all of the wonderful people. I've been stitching for years and years but I'm new to the industry and everyone I've had the pleasure to meet are so helpful and friendly. My goal is to do a few shows next year and I look forward to meeting people face to face.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of cross-stitch?

Antiquing is my most favorite thing to do. I love traveling the countryside for little stores and flea markets. And my daughter loves to shop so she tags along like I used to with my Mom. My son plays football and basketball and we love to go to his games to cheer him on.

What are a few of your favorite things about living in Indiana?

I was born and raised here in Indiana and I love the Spring and the Fall. This time of year the leaves are just starting to turn from green to bright yellows and reds and the air is cool and crisp. It brings back so many memories of being a little girl jumping in piles of beautiful leaves at my Grandma's cabin. And throwing daffodil bulbs around the yard and planting them where they landed. You just can't beat the farm stands filled with sweet corn and home grown tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers and watermelon. I'm not much of a cold weather person....although you'd think I'd be used to it by now. I long to live by the ocean and dream about it almost everyday.

Do you have any new designs coming out this fall?

I do have many new designs that will be available soon. Along with my Cross-Stitch patterns I will also be offering Needle Punch patterns as well. My newest patterns include a Cross-Stitched Redwork Pinkeep Drum covered in early style motifs called ~Be Ye Merry~ and a Needle Punched Sewing Pouch with a sweet little Bluebird perched on a sprig of bittersweet called ~ Bluebird Sewing Pouch~.

Would you mind sharing a favorite recipe?

This is my family's all time favorite recipe this time of year. It's so simple and we can use all the farm fresh produce we pick up at the farmers market. My Great Grandma used to make this for my sister and I.

Tomato, Cucumber and Onion Salad

2 tbsp. vegetable oil
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 tbsp. vinegar
1 medium cucumber, peeled and thinly sliced
2 medium tomatoes, sliced-- we love roma tomatoes for this salad
1 large onion, sliced and separated into rings

Combine first 4 ingredients in a jar and shake well. Combine vegetables in a serving bowl. Pour dressing over vegetables and refrigerate for 2 hours before serving.

Enjoy!
